Green AI Chapter Representative kicked off the ceremony, sharing plans to establish chapters worldwide, organizing events to foster discussions among students and professionals on green AI and sustainability.
Bruce Zou, former Secretary to the Governor of Kentucky, shared his journey from Shanghai to Kentucky, emphasizing the importance of sustainable workforce development in the U.S. He highlighted the need for AI-powered systems to streamline training and enhance energy efficiency in manufacturing, focusing on bridging global and local workforce needs to sustain growth in green industries.
Mark Jackson, Senior Quantum Evangelist at Quantinuum, explored quantum computing's potential in sustainability, discussing its unique abilities in molecular simulation, essential for innovations like eco-friendly fertilizer production and carbon capture technologies. He presented quantum computing as a transformative tool for future advancements in green tech.
Manav Goel, Tech Lead for Social Impact at Meta, emphasized that sustainable development is about more than just technology—it's about fostering a shift in societal behavior towards environmental stewardship. He encouraged integrating community-focused approaches, viewing the planet as a shared responsibility, and transforming information into actionable wisdom.
Karen Clopton, former Chair of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, highlighted the importance of ESG principles and regulatory frameworks, cautioning against over-reliance on energy-intensive solutions like nuclear power and AI without considering their environmental impacts. She urged increased transparency, ethics, and accountability in tech-driven sustainability.
The Sustainable Development Leadership Challenge Award Ceremony recognized outstanding youth-led initiatives. Awards celebrated innovative projects from young leaders focused on sustainable solutions, reinforcing the summit’s goal to inspire and empower the next generation.
In his concluding remarks, Jerry Huang, Founder and President of the Green AI Institute, announced plans for an expanded summit in April 2025. He invited continued engagement from attendees, encouraging them to join working groups, subscribe to the Institute’s white papers, and actively participate in the Green AI community.
The ceremony closed with a call to action, inviting attendees to collaborate across industries, academia, and communities to promote green AI and create a sustainable future together.
